About the Role

Wexford General Hospital is seeking a Clinical Nurse Specialist (Respiratory Care, Acute Care) to join its dedicated nursing team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in enhancing acute respiratory care and patient outcomes within a busy, multidisciplinary hospital environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of evidence-based respiratory nursing care within the acute care setting.
  • Provide expert clinical advice, assessment, and interventions for patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop care pathways that support early intervention and patient self-management.
  • Support education, training, and mentorship for nursing and allied healthcare staff.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and audit processes within the Respiratory Care service.
  • Act as a clinical resource for respiratory assessment, oxygen therapy, and non-invasive ventilation management.
  • Engage in clinical research and professional development to support best practice.

Required Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered General Nurse (RGN) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
  • Minimum of 5 years’ post-registration experience, including substantial time in respiratory or acute care nursing.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Respiratory Nursing or related specialty (or commitment to obtaining one).
  • Proven ability to lead service improvements and work autonomously within a specialist role.

Desirable

  • Experience in patient education, clinical audit, or research.
  • Postgraduate certification in teaching or mentorship.
  • Knowledge of current HSE care models and clinical governance frameworks.
