Join HSE West and North West as a Phlebotomist (Grade Code 3425) and play a key role in patient care at Galway University Hospitals. This position forms part of the Fleibeatóimí Supplementary Panel 2 (Ref: PLE252) and is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants.
This is an excellent opportunity for qualified Phlebotomists to contribute to frontline healthcare in a leading hospital environment within the HSE West and North West region, covering Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon, Mayo, and Galway.
About the Role
As a Phlebotomist in Galway University Hospitals, you will provide skilled and compassionate blood collection services for patients across a range of clinical areas. You’ll ensure high standards of specimen quality, infection control, and patient safety.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform venepuncture and capillary sampling for inpatients and outpatients.
- Ensure accurate patient identification and correct labelling of samples.
- Maintain infection prevention and control protocols during all procedures.
- Liaise effectively with nursing, laboratory, and medical teams to ensure timely sample processing.
- Support quality assurance and audit processes in accordance with HSE standards.
- Handle patient data with strict confidentiality and in compliance with GDPR.
- Participate in continuing professional development and health and safety training.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Recognised qualification in Phlebotomy or equivalent relevant healthcare experience.
- Proven competence in specimen collection, patient identification, and infection control.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Eligible to work in Ireland at the time of application.
Desirable
- Experience within an acute hospital or clinical laboratory setting.
- Knowledge of HSE protocols, laboratory information systems, and phlebotomy best practice.
- Evidence of continuous professional development.
