About the Role

The Health Service Executive (HSE) Dublin and North East is inviting applications for the position of Housekeeping Attendant in County Louth. This essential patient care role ensures that all clinical and public areas are maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene, directly contributing to patient safety and comfort.

As part of the General Support Services team, the Housekeeping Attendant will play a key part in infection control, ward preparation, and maintaining a welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This post offers permanent, whole-time employment within the public health system and is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants.


Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in all wards, corridors, and clinical areas.
  • Carry out daily and deep cleaning duties using approved disinfectants and equipment.
  • Manage the safe segregation, collection, and disposal of waste in compliance with HSE infection control policies.
  • Report maintenance or safety issues to the Hygiene Manager promptly.
  • Replenish stock of cleaning materials and supplies as required.
  • Support infection prevention initiatives during outbreaks or heightened control periods.
  • Work collaboratively with nursing, facilities, and support staff to ensure optimal patient comfort and safety.

Required Qualifications

Essential

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or hygiene service environment.
  • Understanding of infection control procedures and occupational health safety.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility to work shifts and weekends when required.

Preferred

  • Formal training in healthcare cleaning or hygiene standards (QQI or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with HSE hygiene protocols and audit processes.
  • Experience working in acute or community healthcare settings.
