The Brothers of Charity Services Ireland, in partnership with the Health Service Executive (HSE), are inviting applications for a Permanent Part-Time Bus Driver to join our General Support Services team in Galway City & County. This position plays a vital role in ensuring safe, reliable, and compassionate transport services for individuals supported by our organisation across community and residential settings.
About the Role
As a Bus Driver (Grade: Driver/Porter 4908), you will be responsible for the safe and efficient transport of service users, staff, and materials throughout the Galway region. You will contribute to the overall mission of the Brothers of Charity Services by supporting inclusive community participation, promoting dignity, and maintaining the highest standards of care and safety.
This is a HSE-funded, pensionable, permanent part-time role, aligned with national pay scales and public sector benefits.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate minibuses and adapted vehicles in accordance with road safety regulations and organisational policies.
- Transport individuals with intellectual disabilities, ensuring comfort, dignity, and safety at all times.
- Perform routine vehicle inspections, including daily checks of oil, tyres, and fuel.
- Maintain accurate transport logs, mileage records, and maintenance reports.
- Liaise with the Transport Manager and other departments to coordinate schedules and vehicle maintenance.
- Assist service users with boarding, securing mobility aids, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
- Support general porter duties where required, including movement of supplies and equipment between service locations.
- Represent the organisation professionally when interacting with service users, families, and the public.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Full, clean Category D or D1 driver’s licence.
- CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) qualification and up-to-date Driver CPC card.
- Minimum of two years’ professional driving experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of road safety and vehicle maintenance standards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours and travel within Galway City & County.
Desirable
- Experience working in a healthcare, disability, or social care environment.
- Knowledge of the HSE’s Health and Safety standards and service-user transport protocols.
- Basic mechanical knowledge or experience conducting minor vehicle repairs.

€32,059 – €36,618 per annum (pro-rata for part-time staff) in line with Department of Health Consolidated Salary Scales. - Contract Type: Permanent, Part-Time, and Pensionable
