Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown, part of the HSE Dublin and North East Health Region, is inviting applications for the role of Medical Scientist (Staff Grade) within the Biochemistry Department. This is a permanent, whole-time position offering the opportunity to contribute to high-quality diagnostic services supporting patient care.
About the Role
Working collaboratively with the Chief Medical Scientist, clinical staff, and multidisciplinary teams, you will help deliver a comprehensive biochemistry service that meets the diagnostic and clinical needs of patients. The role aligns with the hospital’s mission and strategic objectives, promoting excellence in clinical laboratory practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform and validate biochemical analyses in line with ISO 15189 and HSE quality standards.
- Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot analytical instruments.
- Participate in internal and external quality control procedures.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of new methodologies.
- Ensure compliance with safety, ethical, and confidentiality standards.
- Support and mentor trainee scientists and laboratory assistants.
- Engage in continuing professional development and quality improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- A recognised Bachelor’s degree in Medical Science (Biochemistry or equivalent).
- CORU registration (or eligibility for same).
- Proven experience in a clinical biochemistry laboratory.
- Strong analytical, organisational, and teamwork skills.
Desirable
- Experience with automated chemistry platforms (e.g., Roche, Abbott, Beckman).
- Familiarity with LIMS and middleware systems.
- Participation in laboratory audits or accreditation processes.
What We Offer
- Salary: HSE Medical Scientist (Staff Grade) scale – €42,783 to €70,527 per annum (effective 1 August 2025, per DoH Consolidated Salary Scales).
