Senior Radiographer (Sonographer) – St. Luke’s Hospital – Kilkenny

HSE Dublin & South East is seeking a dedicated Senior Radiographer (Sonographer) to join the Radiology Department at St. Luke’s General Hospital, Kilkenny. This permanent, whole-time position offers an exciting opportunity to advance your career within one of Ireland’s key acute hospitals, providing a comprehensive diagnostic imaging service to the South East region.


About the Role

As a Senior Radiographer (Sonographer), you will play a vital role in delivering a high-quality, patient-centred imaging service in accordance with HSE standards and professional best practice. You will conduct a broad range of ultrasound examinations, ensuring the highest diagnostic standards are achieved. The role also includes deputising for the Clinical Specialist as required and contributing to on-call rosters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide variety of ultrasound imaging examinations in line with departmental protocols and national standards.
  • Ensure patient safety and dignity at all times, maintaining strong communication and empathy skills.
  • Support the training and mentoring of junior radiographers, students, and interns.
  • Liaise with medical, nursing, and allied health professionals to deliver efficient and accurate diagnostic support.
  • Contribute to quality improvement, audit, and service development initiatives.
  • Deputise for the Clinical Specialist in Sonography as required.
  • Participate fully in the departmental on-call rota and weekend cover as rostered.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with all HSE and CORU professional standards.

Required Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc (Hons) in Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent recognised qualification.
  • CORU registration as a Radiographer.
  • Minimum of three years post-qualification experience, including substantial experience in diagnostic ultrasound.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in Ultrasound (DMU, PgCert, or equivalent).
  • Previous experience in a teaching hospital or acute care environment.
  • Proven commitment to continuing professional development.
