About HSE South West
The Health Service Executive (HSE) South West provides specialist mental health services to children and adolescents across Cork and Kerry through the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) network. These multidisciplinary teams deliver assessment, treatment, and therapeutic support to young people experiencing moderate to severe mental health difficulties.
As part of the region’s commitment to early intervention and high-quality care, we invite applications for the position of Senior House Officer / Registrar in Psychiatry. This post offers an excellent opportunity to gain broad clinical exposure within the CAMHS framework under the supervision of experienced consultant psychiatrists.
About the Role
Based in Cork CAMHS, this position will support both community and inpatient services, depending on operational needs. The role involves working closely with multidisciplinary professionals including psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, and nursing staff.
You will contribute to the clinical management of young people presenting with complex psychiatric and psychosocial conditions, while developing your competencies in diagnostic formulation and evidence-based treatment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct psychiatric assessments, reviews, and follow-up care for children and adolescents.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and clinical case discussions.
- Liaise with families, schools, and community agencies as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical records in compliance with HSE standards.
- Participate in the CAMHS out-of-hours rota as required.
- Support teaching, research, and audit activities within the service.
- Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Full registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Irish Medical Council (IMC).
- Experience working within psychiatry or mental health services.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable
- Previous experience within Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
- Completion of Basic Specialist Training (BST) in Psychiatry (for Registrar level).
- Commitment to continuous professional development and research.
What We Offer
- Salary:
- Senior House Officer: €54,203 – €74,133 per annum (as per HSE Consolidated Salary Scales, effective 1 August 2025).
- Registrar: €68,891 – €81,126 per annum (as per HSE Consolidated Salary Scales, effective 1 August 2025).
