The HSE Dublin Midlands Health Region is inviting applications for the Registrar in Orthopaedics post (Ref: MRHTMP2523) at Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore, County Offaly. This is a fixed-term wholetime role commencing January 2026, suitable for both HSE and non-HSE applicants seeking advanced surgical training within an established teaching hospital.
About the Role
The Orthopaedic Registrar will join a multidisciplinary surgical team providing high-quality trauma and elective orthopaedic services to patients in the Dublin Midlands region. The successful candidate will support senior surgeons in theatres, wards, and outpatient clinics, gaining exposure to advanced surgical techniques and subspecialty care.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in all aspects of orthopaedic inpatient and outpatient management.
- Assist in theatre for elective and trauma procedures under consultant supervision.
- Contribute to on-call rotas and emergency cover as rostered.
- Support audit, clinical governance, and research initiatives within the department.
- Mentor junior doctors and collaborate with nursing and physiotherapy teams.
- Ensure compliance with HSE clinical and infection-control standards.
- Maintain accurate medical records and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Full registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Irish Medical Council.
- Minimum three years’ postgraduate hospital experience, including orthopaedic or surgical rotations.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a busy acute hospital environment.
Preferred
- Previous Registrar-level orthopaedic or trauma experience.
- Research or audit background with peer-reviewed publications.
- Completion or progression towards MRCS or equivalent qualification.
