An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Temporary Consultant in Emergency Medicine to join the Emergency Department at University Hospital Waterford. This senior consultant role offers the chance to deliver high-impact acute care within a busy Model 4 hospital serving the South East region.

The post is offered on a specified purpose wholetime contract and is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide consultant-level clinical leadership in Emergency Medicine
• Deliver high-quality, patient-centred emergency care
• Supervise and support NCHDs and multidisciplinary teams
• Participate in clinical governance, audit, and service development
• Contribute to rota planning and consultant on-call commitments
• Support teaching, training, and quality improvement initiatives
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Specialist registration with the Irish Medical Council in Emergency Medicine
• Fellowship or equivalent postgraduate qualification
• Demonstrated consultant-level experience in Emergency Medicine
• Strong leadership, decision-making, and communication skills
• Eligibility to work in Ireland
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
• Salary: In line with HSE Consultant in Emergency Medicine (169T) pay scales (effective 1 August 2025)
• Contract: Specified Purpose Wholetime
• Benefits include public service pension scheme, annual leave, and professional development supports
• Participation in the Emergency Medicine consultant on-call rota
Salary scales are governed by Department of Health consolidated consultant pay scales
