This role is for a Senior Medical Scientist in Biochemistry based at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.
You will play a key part in delivering a safe, accurate, and timely laboratory service that supports consultants, doctors, and patients across the hospital and community.

This is a permanent, whole-time post within the Health Service Executive Dublin and North East region.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide a high-quality biochemistry laboratory service in line with hospital and national standards
• Perform, supervise, and validate complex laboratory analyses
• Support consultants and clinical teams with accurate and timely results
• Contribute to quality assurance, audits, and accreditation requirements
• Supervise and support basic grade medical scientists and students
• Participate in service development and continuous improvement
• Comply with HSE policies, safety standards, and professional guidelines

Required Skills & Qualifications

Essential:
• BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent qualification recognised by CORU
• Registration with CORU as a Medical Scientist
• Relevant post-qualification experience in a clinical biochemistry laboratory
• Experience working at or suitable for Senior Medical Scientist level

Desirable:
• Experience in an acute hospital laboratory setting
• Knowledge of quality systems and laboratory accreditation
• Strong communication and team-working skills

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

• Salary: In line with HSE Senior Medical Scientist (Grade 3877) salary scale
• Contract: Permanent, whole-time
• Working hours: Standard HSE laboratory working hours, with participation in rosters as required
• Benefits include public service pension, annual leave, and paid sick leave in line with HSE terms

(Salary scales governed by HSE consolidated pay agreements )
