The HSE Dublin and South East is recruiting a Substance Misuse Addiction Counsellor to deliver high-quality counselling services within multidisciplinary Substance Misuse Services. This permanent, whole-time post is based in Waterford/Wexford and focuses on supporting adults and young people experiencing substance misuse and associated social inclusion challenges.
Table of Contents
Key Responsibilities
• Provide individual and group counselling in line with professional accreditation standards
• Deliver evidence-based interventions for substance misuse across diverse client groups
• Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams across community and hospital settings
• Address social inclusion issues including homelessness, Traveller health, and migrant health
• Maintain accurate clinical records and comply with HSE policies and procedures
• Engage with clients face-to-face and via phone or online platforms as required
• Participate in service development, audits, and continuous professional development
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Recognised counselling qualification with relevant professional accreditation
• Demonstrated depth and breadth of counselling experience with adults and/or young people
• Proven experience working in substance misuse and social inclusion contexts
• Strong communication, assessment, and therapeutic skills
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Willingness to deliver counselling using face-to-face, phone, and online modalities

• Salary in line with HSE Counsellor Grade 391T consolidated pay scales (effective 1 August 2025)
