The National Screening Service invites applications for the position of Locum Consultant Histopathologist Dublin, based at the BreastCheck Eccles Unit and Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Dublin. This specified purpose wholetime contract offers an exceptional opportunity to contribute to specialist breast pathology services within a nationally recognised screening programme.
This Consultant Histopathologist role provides leadership in diagnostic histopathology, with a particular emphasis on breast pathology, supporting multidisciplinary teams and delivering high-quality patient-centred care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist histopathology services with a focus on breast pathology.
- Report complex surgical pathology specimens in accordance with national and international standards.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to clinical decision-making.
- Support quality assurance initiatives within the BreastCheck screening programme.
- Supervise and mentor medical trainees and laboratory staff.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and reporting standards.
- Contribute to service development, research, and audit activities.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Registration as a Specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland in Histopathology.
- Eligibility for appointment as a Medical Consultant in accordance with statutory registration requirements.
- FRCPath or equivalent specialist qualification (desirable).
- Minimum of six years satisfactory postgraduate training and experience in the medical profession.
- At least four years’ satisfactory experience in Histopathology and Morbid Anatomy.
- Demonstrated experience in Breast Pathology (desirable).
- Strong leadership, communication, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
Note: The successful candidate must be registered as a Specialist before taking up appointment and will be allowed a maximum of 180 calendar days from interview date to secure this registration if not already in place.
