Job Overview
The Director of Nursing Band 2 Sligo position offers a senior leadership opportunity within the Regional Immunisation and Vaccination Programme in HSE West and North West. This strategic post plays a vital role in the planning, implementation and continuous improvement of vaccination services across Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal.
This is a high-impact leadership role for an experienced nursing manager with proven expertise in immunisation programme delivery, clinical education and quality improvement within the Irish health service.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for the Regional Immunisation/Vaccination Programme.
- Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of clinical education and training initiatives.
- Oversee the effective delivery of immunisation programmes across the region.
- Drive quality improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with national standards and policies.
- Manage and support senior nursing teams and multidisciplinary stakeholders.
- Contribute to regional service planning in line with health region implementation reforms.
- Monitor performance metrics and ensure continuous service enhancement.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Registered Nurse with current registration on the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Significant senior nursing leadership experience at management level.
- Demonstrated depth and breadth of experience in the delivery of immunisation programmes.
- Proven experience in developing, implementing and evaluating clinical education and training programmes.
- Experience implementing quality improvement initiatives within the health service.
- Strong strategic planning, governance and stakeholder engagement skills.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
- Salary Scale: Director of Nursing Band 2 (Grade Code 2904).
- Salary Range (effective 1 February 2026): €89,121 – €104,199 per annum (LSIs applicable).
- Permanent Wholetime, Permanent Part-time, Specified Purpose Wholetime and Specified Purpose Part-time contracts available.

- Annual leave and public holiday entitlements as per national agreements.
Location & Employer Information
This role is based within the HSE West and North West Health Region, covering Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon, Mayo and Galway.
The postholder will be located in the North West and based in either Letterkenny or Sligo HSE Offices, with the final location agreed upon appointment.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic regional public health leadership team during a period of ongoing health region reform and service development.
