Job Overview
The Advanced Specialist Pharmacist – Cancer Services role at University Hospital Limerick offers a unique opportunity to lead and deliver expert pharmaceutical care within oncology services across HSE Mid West. This senior-level position plays a critical role in ensuring safe, effective, and evidence-based medication management for cancer patients.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will provide advanced clinical pharmacy services, support service development, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives within Cancer Services at University Hospital Limerick.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advanced clinical pharmacy services to oncology and haematology patients.
- Lead on the development, implementation, and review of cancer-related medication protocols and guidelines.
- Collaborate with consultants, nursing staff, and allied health professionals to optimise patient outcomes.
- Ensure safe preparation, dispensing, and monitoring of chemotherapy and supportive treatments.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and clinical case reviews.
- Contribute to clinical audit, research, and service improvement initiatives within Cancer Services.
- Supervise, mentor, and support pharmacy staff and trainees as required.
- Maintain compliance with national policies, regulatory standards, and HSE governance frameworks.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Registration as a Pharmacist with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI).
- Significant post-registration experience in hospital pharmacy, with substantial experience in oncology or cancer services.
- Demonstrated expertise in chemotherapy protocols and oncology therapeutics.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and clinical excellence.
