Job Overview

The Advanced Specialist Pharmacist – Cancer Services role at University Hospital Limerick offers a unique opportunity to lead and deliver expert pharmaceutical care within oncology services across HSE Mid West. This senior-level position plays a critical role in ensuring safe, effective, and evidence-based medication management for cancer patients.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will provide advanced clinical pharmacy services, support service development, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives within Cancer Services at University Hospital Limerick.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced clinical pharmacy services to oncology and haematology patients.
  • Lead on the development, implementation, and review of cancer-related medication protocols and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with consultants, nursing staff, and allied health professionals to optimise patient outcomes.
  • Ensure safe preparation, dispensing, and monitoring of chemotherapy and supportive treatments.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and clinical case reviews.
  • Contribute to clinical audit, research, and service improvement initiatives within Cancer Services.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support pharmacy staff and trainees as required.
  • Maintain compliance with national policies, regulatory standards, and HSE governance frameworks.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Registration as a Pharmacist with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI).
  • Significant post-registration experience in hospital pharmacy, with substantial experience in oncology or cancer services.
  • Demonstrated expertise in chemotherapy protocols and oncology therapeutics.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and clinical excellence.

  • Salary aligned with the HSE Pharmacist – Advanced Specialist Grade (Code 3250) pay scale, in accordance with February 2026 consolidated public sector salary scales.
