Job Overview
The Consultant Psychiatrist Cork position offers an exceptional leadership opportunity within South Lee Mental Health Services, part of HSE South West. This specified purpose wholetime contract is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants and provides the chance to deliver high-quality, patient-centred general adult psychiatric services in a dynamic and multidisciplinary environment.
You will play a pivotal role in clinical governance, service development, and the delivery of specialist mental health care across the Cork region.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide consultant-level psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for adults within the catchment area.
- Lead and support multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, effective, and recovery-focused care.
- Participate in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to service planning and strategic development within South Lee Mental Health Services.
- Provide supervision, mentoring, and teaching to NCHDs and other healthcare professionals.
- Engage in on-call and emergency psychiatric services as required.
- Maintain accurate clinical records in accordance with HSE policies and regulatory standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Full registration on the Specialist Division of the Medical Council of Ireland (Psychiatry).
- Relevant postgraduate qualifications in Psychiatry.
- Extensive experience in General Adult Psychiatry.
- Demonstrated leadership and multidisciplinary team management experience.
- Strong commitment to patient safety, clinical excellence, and service innovation.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and decision-making skills.
