Job Overview

This Staff Nurse Mental Health NFMHSN18 opportunity offers a permanent wholetime position within the National Forensic Mental Health Service (NFMHS) in Portrane. The role involves delivering specialist mental health nursing care within a secure forensic setting, supporting recovery-focused and patient-centred practice.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the Staff Nurse will contribute to high-quality clinical care, risk management, therapeutic engagement, and service development within a modern national forensic facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive mental health nursing care in a secure forensic environment.
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised care plans for service users.
  • Promote recovery-oriented and trauma-informed practice.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings and clinical decision-making.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation in line with professional and legal standards.
  • Participate in risk assessment and management processes.
  • Support safeguarding, infection prevention and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Supervise and support junior staff and students where required.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Registration as a Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) or eligibility to register.
  • Demonstrated experience in mental health nursing practice.
  • Strong assessment, communication and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary forensic setting.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Eligibility to work in Ireland.
