This Staff Nurse Mental Health NFMHSN18 opportunity offers a permanent wholetime position within the National Forensic Mental Health Service (NFMHS) in Portrane. The role involves delivering specialist mental health nursing care within a secure forensic setting, supporting recovery-focused and patient-centred practice.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the Staff Nurse will contribute to high-quality clinical care, risk management, therapeutic engagement, and service development within a modern national forensic facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive mental health nursing care in a secure forensic environment.
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised care plans for service users.
- Promote recovery-oriented and trauma-informed practice.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings and clinical decision-making.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation in line with professional and legal standards.
- Participate in risk assessment and management processes.
- Support safeguarding, infection prevention and quality improvement initiatives.
- Supervise and support junior staff and students where required.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Registration as a Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) or eligibility to register.
- Demonstrated experience in mental health nursing practice.
- Strong assessment, communication and clinical decision-making skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary forensic setting.
- Commitment to continuous professional development.
- Eligibility to work in Ireland.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
- Salary aligned to the HSE Staff Nurse – Mental Health consolidated salary scale (Grade 2674), in accordance with public sector pay agreements and the February 2026 pay adjustments :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}.
