Job Overview
The Staff Nurse Mental Health Services role offers newly qualified and 2025/2026 graduate nurses the opportunity to begin their professional career within Mental Health Services across Galway, Mayo and Roscommon. These permanent positions are based within HSE West and North West and provide structured clinical exposure in acute and community settings.
This campaign is open to current 4th year nursing students completing the 36-week clinical placement or those who have successfully completed the BSc (Honours) in Mental Health Nursing in September 2026 and are eligible for registration with NMBI.
Key Responsibilities
- • Deliver high-quality, person-centred psychiatric nursing care in acute and community mental health settings
- • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised care plans
- • Support service users experiencing mental health challenges across adult and specialist services
- • Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary mental health teams
- • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and adhere to professional standards
- • Promote recovery-oriented practice and patient advocacy
- • Participate in ongoing professional development and training
Required Skills & Qualifications
- • Current 4th Year Nursing student undertaking the 36-week clinical placement OR successful completion of BSc (Honours) Degree in Mental Health Nursing (2025/2026 graduates)
- • Eligibility for registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
- • Demonstrated depth and breadth of psychiatric nursing knowledge
- • Experience or placement exposure in Acute or Community Mental Health settings
- • Exposure to one or more of the following areas: Adult Mental Health, Older Adult / Psychiatry of Later Life, Intellectual Disability with Mental Health diagnosis, CAMHS
- • Strong communication, teamwork and clinical decision-making skills
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
Salary Scale: €38,523 – €56,384 (including LSI) in line with public sector pay scales.
Incremental progression applies in accordance with HSE salary policy.
Permanent whole-time and part-time positions available. Standard HSE benefits apply, including pension scheme, annual leave entitlements, and continuous professional development opportunities.
