Job Overview
Sligo University Hospital invites applications for the position of Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. This is a permanent wholetime opportunity to join a progressive multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality maternity and gynaecological care across the HSE West and North West region.
This Consultant Obstetrician Sligo role offers the opportunity to provide clinical leadership, shape service development, and contribute to excellence in women’s health within a busy acute hospital environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive obstetric and gynaecological services in line with national clinical standards.
- Lead and support multidisciplinary teams in delivering safe, patient-centred care.
- Participate in on-call and emergency service provision as required.
- Contribute to service planning, governance, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Supervise and mentor NCHDs and junior medical staff.
- Engage in clinical audit, research, and continuous professional development.
- Support strategic development of maternity and gynaecology services within the hospital.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Full registration in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland.
- Relevant postgraduate qualifications in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
- Significant experience at Consultant level or equivalent.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management capability.
- Commitment to clinical governance, audit, and service development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
The salary scale for this position ranges from €235,862 to €283,318 per annum, in line with the approved Consultant salary scale.
This is a permanent wholetime post based on 37 hours per week. Benefits include public sector pension scheme, annual leave entitlements, continuous professional development support, and access to structured clinical governance frameworks.
