Job Overview
The Quality Patient Safety Medical Coordinator Galway role is a senior Grade VII leadership position within Galway University Hospitals (GUH). This permanent wholetime opportunity plays a central role in driving quality improvement, strengthening patient safety systems, and supporting risk management initiatives across the hospital group.
Working in a complex acute healthcare environment, the successful candidate will lead collaborative initiatives that enhance clinical governance, support regulatory compliance, and embed a culture of continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate quality improvement and patient safety initiatives across Galway University Hospitals.
- Oversee incident and complaint management processes in line with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Support the development and implementation of risk management frameworks and governance structures.
- Provide expert guidance on quality assurance and patient safety best practice.
- Deliver and coordinate relevant training and education programmes.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary stakeholders to lead organisational change initiatives.
- Supervise and manage staff as appropriate to the Grade VII level.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Proven track record in quality improvement, risk management, and patient safety initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience in incident and complaint management processes.
- Strong knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements within healthcare settings.
- Experience leading change in a complex health-related organisation.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience delivering training and education programmes relevant to the role.
- Supervisory and managerial experience appropriate to Grade VII level.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
Salary Scale (Grade VII – 0582): €60,613 – €78,795 per annum (LSIs applicable in line with public sector pay policy).
This is a Permanent Wholetime position within the HSE West and North West region. Standard public sector terms and conditions apply, including annual leave, pension entitlements, and access to continuous professional development opportunities.
