An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly experienced Radiation Therapist, Clinical Specialist to join the Radiation Oncology Department at Galway University Hospital. This role offers the chance to work within an internationally accredited cancer network, delivering advanced radiation therapy services and contributing to excellence in patient care. The successful candidate will play a key leadership role in clinical practice, service development, and specialist care delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist clinical expertise in radiation therapy within the oncology service
- Lead and support advanced practice initiatives in radiation therapy
- Deliver high-quality, patient-centred care in line with best practice standards
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across oncology services
- Participate in service planning, development, and continuous improvement
- Supervise and support junior staff and students as required
- Ensure compliance with clinical governance, safety, and quality standards
- Engage in audit, research, and ongoing professional development
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Recognised qualification in Radiation Therapy
- Significant post-qualification experience in radiation therapy
- Demonstrated specialist expertise in a relevant clinical area
- Registration with CORU (or eligibility for registration)
- Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
- Proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Commitment to continuous professional development and service improvement
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
Salary scale: €65,592 – €77,475 per annum (based on experience and HSE pay scales).
Permanent whole-time position with standard HSE working hours. Benefits include access to public sector pension scheme, annual leave entitlements, and ongoing professional development opportunities.
Location & Employer Information
This position is based in the Radiation Oncology Department at Galway University Hospital, part of the HSE West and North West region. The hospital is a key component of the University of Galway Cancer Network, accredited by the Organisation of European Cancer Institutes (OECI), reflecting a gold standard in cancer care. The successful candidate may be required to work across service areas within the region as needed.
