Job Overview

The successful candidate will work as part of the Cancer Services nursing team at Galway University Hospitals, supporting the delivery of safe, effective, and evidence-based oncology care. The role involves caring for patients undergoing cancer treatment while maintaining the highest standards of clinical practice, communication, and compassionate care.

This campaign is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants and includes Permanent Part-time, Permanent Whole-time, Specified Purpose Part-time, and Specified Purpose Whole-time opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality nursing care to oncology and cancer services patients
  • Support patient assessment, treatment planning, and ongoing monitoring
  • Administer medications and treatments in line with hospital protocols
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and patient records
  • Provide emotional support and education to patients and families
  • Promote patient safety, infection prevention, and quality care standards
  • Participate in continuous professional development and clinical training initiatives

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Registration or eligibility for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
  • Strong clinical nursing knowledge and patient care skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment
  • Commitment to patient-centred care and professional standards
  • Previous oncology or acute hospital experience is desirable
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Eligibility to work in Ireland

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

Salary will be aligned with HSE pay scales for Staff Nurse Grade 2135 positions. Competitive pay and public sector employment benefits apply, including annual leave entitlements, pension scheme access, structured training opportunities, and ongoing professional development support.
