Job Overview

The Obs & Gynae Registrar will work as part of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology team at Mayo University Hospital, supporting inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and maternity services. The role requires strong clinical judgement, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality obstetrics and gynaecology care to patients within Mayo University Hospital.
  • Support consultant-led maternity and gynaecology services across inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Participate in emergency obstetric and gynaecology care rotas.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and clinical documentation.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Assist in clinical audits, teaching, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with HSE clinical governance and patient safety standards.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of women’s healthcare services within the hospital.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Active Irish Medical Council (IMC) registration is essential.
  • Valid English language examination results where applicable.
  • OET or IELTS examination must be in date at the time of application for candidates applying for their first HSE role.
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
  • Irish Obstetrics and Gynaecology experience is desirable.
  • Successful completion of 2 parts of the membership examination in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
  • Strong clinical decision-making and patient management skills.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and organisational abilities.
