Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital is seeking an experienced senior leader to fill the permanent, whole-time role of Operational and Transformational Lead for Unscheduled Emergency Care (UEC). This Grade VIII post offers a rare opportunity to shape acute service delivery at one of Ireland’s major regional hospitals, driving measurable improvements across the full unscheduled care pathway.
Role Overview
The Operational and Transformational Lead UEC will provide senior clinical and operational leadership across acute services, with a primary focus on optimising Emergency Department performance and access to care. The post holder will ensure integration across all acute and step-down pathways, leading delivery on key unscheduled care performance metrics including ED conversion rates, trolley waits, and length of stay. The role is central to developing integrated clinical pathways across the ED, AMAU, wards, and community services.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide senior operational and clinical leadership across all acute unscheduled care services at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.
- Drive performance improvement across Emergency Department conversion rates, trolley wait times, and patient length of stay.
- Develop and implement integrated clinical pathways spanning the ED, AMAU, inpatient wards, and community services.
- Lead system-wide transformation initiatives to improve patient flow and access to care.
- Ensure effective integration across acute and step-down care pathways, supporting seamless transitions for patients.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including HSE Dublin and North East regional leadership, to drive service improvement.
- Report on unscheduled care performance and contribute to broader hospital strategy and governance.

Salary
€83,911 – €97,912 per annum (HSE Grade VIII scale, 6-point scale, plus 1 LSI of €101,207), based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026.

Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital is a major acute teaching hospital located in Drogheda, Co. Louth, serving as the primary acute facility for the North East region under HSE Dublin and North East. The hospital provides a comprehensive range of acute medical, surgical, and emergency services to a large catchment population across Louth, Meath, and surrounding counties. This post is based on-site at Our Lady of Lourdes and operates within the regional governance structure of HSE Dublin and North East, spanning North Dublin, Meath, Louth, Cavan, and Monaghan.
