Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist – Palliative Care (Fisiteiripeoir, Speisialtóir Cliniciúil) vacancy at the Dochas Centre, Drogheda, under HSE Dublin and North East. This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced physiotherapist to lead specialist palliative care physiotherapy services within the Integrated Health Area of Louth/Meath.

About the Role

A specified purpose, whole-time vacancy exists for a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist specialising in Palliative Care, based at the Dochas Centre in Drogheda. The successful candidate will provide expert physiotherapy assessment, intervention, and clinical leadership within the palliative care setting, supporting patients and their families across the Louth/Meath community services area.

A panel may be formed from this campaign to fill current and future permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part-time duration within Community Services in the Integrated Health Areas of Louth/Meath.

Key Responsibilities

As a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in Palliative Care, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing specialist physiotherapy assessment and evidence-based intervention to patients receiving palliative care.
  • Acting as a clinical leader and expert resource for the physiotherapy team and wider multidisciplinary team (MDT).
  • Developing, implementing, and evaluating specialist palliative care physiotherapy pathways and service improvements.
  • Maintaining a high standard of clinical documentation in line with HSE and professional standards.
  • Contributing to education, supervision, and professional development of junior physiotherapy staff.
  • Engaging in audit, research, and quality improvement activities relevant to palliative care physiotherapy.
  • Collaborating with MDT colleagues, families, and community partners to deliver person-centred care.

Requirements

Candidates must meet the eligibility requirements for the Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist grade, which typically include:

  • CORU registration as a Physiotherapist (or eligibility to register).
  • Significant post-qualification experience, including specialist experience in palliative care or a related clinical area.
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise and leadership at senior or specialist level.
  • Commitment to continuing professional development and evidence-based practice.

Salary

€71,405 – €82,860 per annum (HSE Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist scale, 9-point scale). Based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 February 2026. Pay is pro-rata for part-time hours where applicable.

Location

The role is based at the Dochas Centre, Drogheda, Co. Louth, which serves as a key hub for community and palliative care services within the Integrated Health Area of Louth/Meath. The post operates within HSE Community Services, supporting patients across both counties in a setting that prioritises compassionate, patient-centred end-of-life care.
