HSE Mid West is seeking an experienced Head of Catering (Grade 4120) to lead catering services across Older Persons Residential Services in the Mid West region. There is currently one permanent whole-time vacancy available in Older Persons Residential Services, Clare Community Nursing Units. A panel may be formed from this competition to fill future permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part-time duration across HSE Mid West.
Role Overview
The Head of Catering will provide strategic and operational leadership for catering services within Older Persons Residential Services in HSE Mid West. The postholder will be responsible for ensuring high standards of food quality, safety, and nutritional care across Community Nursing Units in Clare, and across the wider Mid West region as panel vacancies arise.
Key Responsibilities
Specific duties will be outlined in the candidate brief available via the application link. Typical responsibilities at Head of Catering level within HSE residential services include:
- Leading and managing catering operations across multiple residential sites
- Ensuring compliance with food safety legislation, HACCP standards, and HSE nutritional guidelines
- Managing catering budgets, procurement, and stock control
- Supervising, developing, and supporting catering staff
- Collaborating with clinical and care teams to meet the dietary and nutritional needs of older persons in residential care
- Implementing quality improvement initiatives in catering service delivery
- Maintaining accurate records and contributing to audits and inspections

Salary
This post is remunerated in accordance with the HSE Consolidated Pay Scales (effective 1 June 2026) at the Head of Catering (Grade 4120) scale:
€83,912 – €84,665 – €87,976 – €91,301 – €94,600 – €97,912 – €101,207 per year
New appointees will generally be placed on the first point of the scale in accordance with HSE pay policy. Previous public sector experience may be considered for placement at a higher point, subject to HSE HR guidelines.

The immediate vacancy is based within Older Persons Residential Services, Clare Community Nursing Units. The competition panel covers HSE Mid West, encompassing counties Clare, Limerick, and Tipperary (North). The employing entity is HSE Mid West FSS An Íarthar Láir.
Contract Type
Permanent Whole-Time. A panel will also be formed from which permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part-time duration may be filled.
