Key Responsibilities

As a Support Worker with Brothers of Charity Services Ireland, you’ll play a vital role in empowering individuals with disabilities to live fulfilling, independent lives. Your responsibilities will include:

Daily Support Activities:

  • Providing person-centred care and support to individuals with intellectual disabilities
  • Assisting with personal care routines, meal preparation, and medication administration
  • Supporting individuals to participate in community activities and social interactions
  • Maintaining detailed records and care plans in accordance with HIQA standards

Professional Development:

  • Participating in ongoing training programmes and professional development opportunities
  • Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams including nurses, therapists, and social workers
  • Contributing to individual support planning and goal setting
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements

Community Integration:

  • Supporting individuals to access community services, employment, and recreational activities
  • Promoting independence and self-advocacy skills
  • Building positive relationships with service users, families, and external stakeholders
  • Advocating for the rights and dignity of people with disabilities

Essential Requirements

Education & Qualifications:

  • Minimum: Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualification
  • Preferred: QQI Level 5 in Healthcare Support, Disability Studies, or related field
  • Training: Willingness to complete mandatory training including PMVA, First Aid, and safeguarding
  • Registration: Successful completion of Garda Vetting (facilitated by employer)

Experience & Skills:

  • Previous experience in care, support work, or customer service (preferred but not essential)
  • Excellent communication skills in English (additional languages advantageous)
  • Empathy, patience, and genuine commitment to supporting people with disabilities
  • Physical fitness suitable for the demands of support work
  • Valid full driving licence (preferred for community support activities)
