The Health Service Executive (HSE) Dublin and Midlands is seeking an experienced Director of Midwifery to join Regional Hospital Mullingar in Westmeath. This is a permanent, full-time leadership position offering the opportunity to shape maternity services across the region and make a lasting impact on maternal and infant care.
About the Role
As Director of Midwifery at Regional Hospital Mullingar, you will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for all midwifery services within the HSE Dublin and Midlands region. This senior role requires demonstrated expertise in midwifery practice, healthcare management, and team leadership to ensure the delivery of exceptional maternal and neonatal care.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage midwifery services across Regional Hospital Mullingar and associated facilities
- Develop and implement strategic plans for midwifery service delivery and quality improvement
- Ensure compliance with HSE policies, national standards, and regulatory requirements for maternal care
- Manage midwifery staffing, recruitment, and professional development programs
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes and service efficiency
- Monitor clinical governance, risk management, and quality assurance in midwifery practice
- Represent midwifery services at regional and national healthcare forums and committees
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Registered Midwife with current NMBI (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland) registration
- Master’s degree in Midwifery, Healthcare Management, or related field
- Minimum 10 years midwifery experience with at least 5 years in senior leadership roles
- Demonstrated depth and breadth of experience in midwifery leadership relevant to director-level responsibilities
- Strong knowledge of HSE policies, procedures, and healthcare governance frameworks
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional qualifications in healthcare management or leadership
- Experience in regional or multi-site healthcare service management
- Track record of implementing service improvements and change management initiatives
- Research experience and publications in midwifery or maternal health
- Experience with budget management and resource allocation in healthcare settings
