Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) is recruiting a Clinical Nurse Manager 2 (CNM2) for a Surgical Flat Ward on a Specified Purpose Wholetime contract. This is an open competition, welcoming applications from both HSE and non-HSE candidates. The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership and effective ward management, supporting the delivery of safe, high-quality nursing care to paediatric surgical patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership and effective day-to-day management of nursing staff on the Surgical Flat Ward
  • Ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to paediatric patients and their families
  • Supervise, mentor, and support nursing staff, including Staff Nurses and Healthcare Assistants
  • Coordinate patient admissions, discharges, and transfers in close collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
  • Maintain accurate and contemporaneous nursing documentation in accordance with NMBI standards and CHI policies
  • Implement and monitor infection prevention and control policies and procedures
  • Manage ward resources, including staffing rosters, equipment allocation, and ward supplies
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and service development projects
  • Liaise with surgical teams, anaesthetics, theatre staff, allied health professionals, and families to ensure seamless, patient-centred care
  • Foster a positive, professional ward environment that promotes staff wellbeing, learning, and development
  • Support the implementation of CHI governance frameworks, policies, and procedures

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Registered General Nurse (RGN) on the active NMBI Register
  • Significant post-registration nursing experience in an acute setting, with relevant experience in paediatric or surgical nursing
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise, and develop a nursing team
  • Experience at CNM1 level or as a Senior Staff Nurse in a supervisory capacity
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous professional development
  • Eligibility to work in Ireland

Salary

The salary for this post is aligned with the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales for Clinical Nurse Manager 2 — Grade 2119, effective 1 June 2026. The scale ranges from €62,699 to €74,123 per annum (9-point scale). Long Service Increments of €76,921 and €79,227 are applicable after qualifying service periods and are excluded from the headline range above.
