Job Overview

The successful candidate will provide specialist renal nursing expertise in the coordination and management of anaemia services, mineral bone disease management, and virology programmes within Renal Services at Merlin Park University Hospital. The role requires advanced clinical knowledge, leadership capability, and the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams to support safe, evidence-based patient care.

This is a specified purpose whole-time position with Galway University Hospitals operating under HSE West and North West.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate specialist renal nursing services relating to anaemia management, mineral bone disease, and virology programmes.
  • Provide advanced clinical leadership and support within the renal multidisciplinary team.
  • Monitor and evaluate patient care pathways to ensure high standards of clinical practice.
  • Support the implementation of evidence-based nursing interventions and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain effective communication with patients, families, nursing staff, consultants, and allied healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in service planning, policy development, and audit activities within Renal Services.
  • Contribute to staff education, mentoring, and professional development initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with HSE policies, infection prevention protocols, and patient safety standards.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Registered General Nurse with active registration on the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
  • Significant post-registration nursing experience relevant to renal services.
  • Demonstrated specialist renal nursing experience in anaemia management, mineral bone disease, and virology coordination.
  • Strong clinical leadership and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
  • Experience in clinical audit, quality improvement, and service development is desirable.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities within a busy acute healthcare environment.

Salary will be aligned with HSE Clinical Nurse Manager II pay scales and public sector terms and conditions. This role is offered on a specified purpose whole-time contract basis.
