An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Nurse Specialist – Respiratory Integrated Care at University Hospital Limerick (UHL), HSE Mid West. This permanent, wholetime post offers an experienced nursing professional the chance to deliver specialist respiratory care at a leading acute hospital while playing a pivotal role in the regional integrated care model for chronic disease management.
About the Role
The Clinical Nurse Specialist – Respiratory Integrated Care will provide specialist nursing assessment, management, and follow-up for patients with respiratory conditions, working across both the acute setting at University Hospital Limerick and the integrated care pathway through the Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Hub. The post supports a seamless continuum of care from hospital to community, contributing to improved outcomes for patients living with chronic respiratory disease across the Mid West region.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist assessment, planning, and clinical management for patients with respiratory conditions within the integrated care framework.
- Develop and maintain CNS-led pathways that support the transition of care between University Hospital Limerick and the CDM Hub at St Joseph’s, Mulgrave Street.
- Act as a key clinical resource and point of contact for patients, families, and the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Nursing (Medicine Directorate) and the ADPHN for Integrated Care Chronic Disease Management to ensure coordinated, patient-centred care.
- Contribute to audit, quality improvement initiatives, and the development of evidence-based protocols and guidelines.
- Participate in education and support for nursing staff and other healthcare professionals in the management of respiratory conditions.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and contribute to data collection in line with HSE reporting requirements.
Requirements
Candidates must meet the eligibility criteria for appointment as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (General) as defined by the HSE. This will typically include registration on the active Register of Nurses maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI), relevant post-registration experience in respiratory nursing or a related specialty, and evidence of specialist knowledge, education, and competence appropriate to the CNS role. Salary
€62,699 – €79,227 per annum (HSE Clinical Nurse Specialist (General) scale, 11-point scale, plus LSIs where applicable), based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026.
