These posts — available on permanent and specified purpose contracts, wholetime and part-time — offer an exceptional opportunity for an experienced SLT specialist to lead neurodevelopmental assessment and intervention for children, young people, and their families within a dynamic Primary Care setting.
About the Role
The Speech and Language Therapist, Clinical Specialist will work within Primary Care services across the HSE Mid West region, delivering specialist assessment and intervention for children and young people with neurodevelopmental differences — including autism — as well as those presenting with mild to moderate mental health difficulties and complex developmental and social needs.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct specialist differential diagnosis and diagnostic assessment for children and young people with neurodevelopmental differences, including autism.
- Design and deliver evidence-informed interventions for children and young people with complex developmental, social, and mild to moderate mental health needs.
- Apply in-depth knowledge of supports and services available to autistic children, young people, and their families.
- Implement neuro-affirming approaches within a strengths-based, person-centred framework.
- Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated, high-quality care.
- Provide clinical leadership and specialist expertise across the service area.
Requirements
- Relevant knowledge, skills, and experience in differential diagnosis and diagnostic assessment when working with children and young people with neurodevelopmental differences, including autism.
- In-depth knowledge of supports, services, and evidence-informed interventions available to autistic children, young people, and their families.
- Strong understanding and practical application of neuro-affirming approaches, with a commitment to strengths-based, person-centred practice.
- Proven experience working effectively within multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated, high-quality care.
- Eligibility to meet the requirements of the Speech and Language Therapist, Clinical Specialist grade (Grade 3025).
Salary
€72,119 – €83,689 per annum (HSE Speech and Language Therapist, Clinical Specialist scale, 9-point scale). No Long Service Increments apply to this grade. Pay is based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026. Part-time and worksharing posts are paid pro-rata.

These posts are based across the HSE Mid West region, covering Limerick, Clare, and Tipperary North. HSE Mid West delivers Primary Care and community health services to a large and diverse population across the midwest of Ireland, providing an engaging professional environment for specialist clinical practice. The successful candidates will contribute to coordinated, multidisciplinary service delivery across this broad geographic area.
