University Hospital Limerick is seeking an experienced Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with a special interest in Paediatric Ophthalmic Surgery to join its specialist clinical team. This is a senior, career-defining appointment offering the opportunity to deliver high-impact paediatric ophthalmic services within the HSE Mid West region. The role combines advanced clinical practice with leadership, service development, and teaching responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
• Provide consultant-level paediatric ophthalmic surgical and clinical services
• Lead and contribute to the delivery of safe, high-quality ophthalmology care
• Participate in elective and emergency ophthalmic services as required
• Supervise, mentor, and support NCHDs and multidisciplinary team members
• Contribute to service planning, audit, governance, and quality improvement
• Engage in teaching, training, and continuous professional development
• Participate in on-call and rota commitments in line with service needs
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Registration as a Specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners (Medical Council of Ireland) in Ophthalmology
• Demonstrated expertise and experience in Paediatric Ophthalmic Surgery
• Eligibility to work in Ireland without restriction
• Strong leadership, communication, and clinical governance skills
• Commitment to patient-centred care and multidisciplinary collaboration
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
• Salary: In line with HSE Consultant salary scales (Department of Health Consolidated Salary Scales, effective August 2025)
• Contract: Permanent, whole-time
