An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Paediatrician with a Special Interest in Palliative Medicine to deliver specialist, child-centred palliative care services across acute and community settings in the South East. This senior consultant role offers meaningful clinical leadership, multidisciplinary collaboration, and long-term career stability within the public health service.

The post is split equally between University Hospital Waterford (18.5 hours/week) and IHA Waterford Wexford (18.5 hours/week), supporting integrated hospital and community-based paediatric palliative care.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide consultant-level paediatric palliative medicine services across hospital and community settings
• Deliver holistic, family-centred care for children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions
• Lead and participate in multidisciplinary team planning and decision-making
• Support symptom management, end-of-life care, and advance care planning
• Provide clinical leadership, teaching, and supervision to junior medical staff
• Contribute to service development, governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives
• Liaise closely with acute hospitals, community services, and voluntary partners
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Registration on the Specialist Division of the Medical Council of Ireland in Paediatrics
• Demonstrated expertise or accredited training in Paediatric Palliative Medicine
• Proven experience at consultant or senior specialist level
• Excellent clinical leadership and multidisciplinary teamwork skills
• Strong communication skills with children, families, and care teams
• Eligibility to work in Ireland
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
• Salary in line with HSE Consultant Paediatrician pay scales (Grade 1155), adjusted in accordance with national public service agreements
• Permanent, pensionable appointment with access to the public service pension scheme
• Annual leave, study leave, and CPD supports as per HSE consultant terms
• Total working time: 37 hours per week (18.5 hours hospital / 18.5 hours community)
• Salary and conditions governed by Department of Health consolidated salary scales
