Job Overview

This Addiction Counsellor (Helpline) role offers an opportunity to provide vital support and guidance to individuals affected by addiction across the Dublin and Midlands region. Based within Addiction Services at Cherry Orchard Hospital, you will play a key role in delivering confidential, compassionate, and professional counselling through a dedicated helpline service. This position combines meaningful client interaction with flexible working arrangements, including partial remote work options.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional counselling and support via a dedicated addiction helpline
  • Assess client needs and offer appropriate guidance, interventions, and referrals
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records in line with best practice
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams within addiction and community services
  • Promote harm reduction and recovery-focused approaches
  • Participate in training, supervision, and continuous professional development
  • Support service improvement initiatives and quality standards

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification in counselling, psychotherapy, or a related discipline
  • Accreditation or eligibility for accreditation with a recognised professional body
  • Experience working in addiction services or a related field is desirable
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and listening skills
  • Ability to manage sensitive and complex cases with professionalism
  • Knowledge of addiction, recovery models, and community supports
  • Competency in working both independently and within a team environment

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

This role offers competitive pay in line with public sector guidelines. The position is permanent and whole-time, with standard HSE working hours. Flexible working arrangements, including partial remote working, may be available. Location & Employer Information

This position is based at Cherry Orchard Hospital, Ballyfermot, Dublin 10, within Addiction Services (CHO7 Helpline Bridge House). The role falls under the Dublin and Midlands region, covering counties including Westmeath, Wicklow, Offaly, Longford, Laois, Kildare, and parts of Dublin South. While the primary base is Dublin 10, remote working may be considered where a suitable environment is available, with attendance required for training and key events.
