The Assistant Staff Officer Grade IV Galway position offers an exciting opportunity to join the busy Telephone Services team at Galway University Hospitals. This specified purpose wholetime role is based within a high-impact communications environment, supporting critical hospital operations across HSE West and North West.
This role is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants and is ideally suited to experienced professionals who thrive in fast-paced Communication Hub or Switchboard settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage high volumes of inbound and outbound calls within a busy hospital switchboard environment.
- Operate and monitor communication systems to ensure efficient routing of urgent and routine calls.
- Provide accurate information and professional assistance to staff, patients, and the public.
- Respond promptly to emergency and priority communications in line with hospital protocols.
- Maintain detailed records and logs in accordance with HSE procedures.
- Support the wider Voice Communications team to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Adhere to data protection, confidentiality, and patient privacy standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Demonstrated depth and breadth of experience working in a busy Communication Hub, Switchboard, or similar high-impact telephone environment.
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise in a fast-paced setting.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Competency in IT systems relevant to telecommunications and administration.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in emergency or high-pressure situations.
