The Health Service Executive (HSE) is seeking a Clinical Midwife Specialist (Diabetes) to join the team at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny. This Specified Purpose Wholetime role focuses on delivering expert midwifery care for women with diabetes in pregnancy. The post is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants, offering a valuable opportunity to develop specialist clinical expertise.

Key Responsibilities
• Provide specialist midwifery care to women with diabetes during pregnancy.
• Support integrated diabetes care pathways across antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal services.
• Deliver expert clinical assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure continuity and quality of care.
• Contribute to patient education and promote self-management strategies.
• Participate in service development, audits, and research-based practice improvements.
• Act as a clinical resource and mentor to midwifery and nursing staff.
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Registered Midwife with active NMBI registration.
• Demonstrated depth and breadth of midwifery experience in diabetes in pregnancy.
• Evidence of continuing professional development in relevant clinical areas.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Must have completed, or be willing to complete within 2 years of appointment, the Nurse Prescribing of Medicinal Products Certificate.
• Proven commitment to high standards of patient care and professional practice.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
• Grade: Clinical Midwife Specialist (2313).
• Salary scale as per HSE Consolidated Pay Scales (effective 1 August 2025).
• Contract type: Specified Purpose Wholetime.
