This Clinical Midwife Specialist Infant Feeding (Lactation) role at Portiuncula University Hospital offers an excellent opportunity to deliver expert, specialist care within a supportive maternity setting. You will play a key role in promoting, supporting, and advancing breastfeeding practices while contributing to high-quality patient care and service development.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist lactation and infant feeding support to mothers and families
- Lead and promote best practice in breastfeeding and infant nutrition
- Support and educate staff on evidence-based infant feeding practices
- Develop and implement clinical guidelines and protocols
- Participate in multidisciplinary care planning and service delivery
- Audit and evaluate breastfeeding support services
- Advocate for patient-centred care and continuous quality improvement
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Registered Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
- Significant clinical experience in midwifery and infant feeding
- Specialist qualification or training in lactation/infant feeding
- Demonstrated leadership and clinical expertise
- Strong communication, teaching, and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
Salary scale: €62,078 – €78,443 per annum (aligned to HSE Clinical Midwife Specialist scale, including LSI where applicable). This role is based at Portiuncula University Hospital, Ballinasloe, County Galway, within the HSE West and North West region.
