Job Overview
Galway University Hospitals are seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse Manager 1 (CNM1) to provide clinical leadership within a surgical nursing environment. This is a permanent whole-time opportunity offering career progression within a major acute teaching hospital and the wider HSE West and North West region.
This role is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants and is ideal for nurses looking to advance into a structured leadership position within surgical services.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide professional leadership and manage the delivery of high-quality patient care
• Support, supervise, and develop nursing staff within the surgical unit
• Ensure clinical practice complies with HSE policies, procedures, and best practice guidelines
• Coordinate daily ward activity, staffing, and patient flow
• Promote a culture of continuous quality improvement and patient safety
• Participate in audit, education, and service development initiatives
• Act as a role model for clinical excellence and professional conduct
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
• Demonstrated depth and breadth of post-registration experience in surgical nursing
• Previous leadership or supervisory experience at ward level
• Strong communication, organisational, and decision-making skills
• Commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous professional development
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
• Salary Scale (CNM1 – Grade 2127): €56,642 – €66,705 per annum (1 August 2025 rates)
• Permanent whole-time contract
