The Clinical Nurse Specialist Candidate – Palliative Care role at Cork University Hospital offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced nurse to advance their specialist career within a leading acute hospital. This permanent wholetime position supports the delivery of high-quality, person-centred palliative care services to patients and families across the hospital setting.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the Clinical Nurse Specialist Candidate Palliative Care will contribute to assessment, care planning, education, and service development while progressing towards full Clinical Nurse Specialist competency.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist nursing input in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of palliative care.
- Support patients and families experiencing life-limiting illness with compassionate, evidence-based care.
- Work collaboratively with medical, nursing, and allied health professionals to ensure coordinated care delivery.
- Promote best practice standards in palliative care across the hospital.
- Participate in education, training, and mentorship of nursing colleagues.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and clinical audit activities.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation in line with HSE policies and professional standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Registered as a General Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Relevant postgraduate qualification or willingness to undertake specialist education in palliative care.
- Demonstrated clinical experience in palliative care or a related acute care setting.
- Strong assessment, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to continuous professional development.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
- Salary aligned with the HSE Clinical Nurse Specialist Candidate (General) Grade 2697 pay scale in accordance with Department of Health Circular 1/2025 and the Public Service Agreement 2024–2026.
