Job Overview
Our Lady’s Hospital Navan is seeking a dedicated Clinical Nurse Specialist Diabetes to join its specialist nursing team. This permanent wholetime HSE position offers an exciting opportunity to lead and enhance diabetes care services within an acute hospital setting.
The successful candidate will play a central role in delivering high-quality, evidence-based diabetes management, supporting patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams across the service.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist nursing expertise in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of diabetes care.
- Act as a clinical resource for patients with complex diabetes management needs.
- Collaborate with consultants, medical teams, and allied health professionals to optimise patient outcomes.
- Lead and contribute to service development initiatives within the Diabetes Service.
- Deliver patient education programmes promoting self-management and prevention strategies.
- Support discharge planning and continuity of care between hospital and community services.
- Participate in audit, research, and quality improvement activities.
- Ensure compliance with HSE policies, clinical guidelines, and professional standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Registered General Nurse with active registration on the appropriate division of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Minimum of 5 years post-registration experience, including significant experience in diabetes care.
- Recognised post-registration qualification in diabetes nursing or related specialty (or willingness to undertake same).
- Demonstrated clinical expertise in diabetes management.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and clinical excellence.
