This specialist post plays a critical role in preventing and controlling healthcare-associated infections while supporting national antimicrobial resistance strategies.
Job Overview
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in Infection Prevention and Control is responsible for optimising patient care through prevention, surveillance, investigation, liaison, education, research and control of healthcare-associated infections (HCAI). The role supports international and national standards and works as a key member of the multidisciplinary Infection Prevention and Control Team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist infection prevention and control advice to healthcare staff.
- Lead and support surveillance, prevention and investigation of healthcare-associated infections.
- Contribute to antimicrobial resistance strategy implementation.
- Deliver education and training programmes in infection prevention and control.
- Support audit, research and evidence-based practice initiatives.
- Collaborate with microbiology and interdisciplinary teams.
- Ensure compliance with national and international IPC standards.
- Maintain effective infection prevention and control systems within the hospital.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Registered General Nurse with active registration on the NMBI register.
- Relevant postgraduate qualification in Infection Prevention & Control (or willingness to obtain).
- Significant clinical experience in acute healthcare settings.
- Demonstrated experience in infection surveillance and outbreak management.
- Strong communication, education and leadership skills.
- Fluent English (written and spoken).
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
