Job Overview

The Clinical Nurse Specialist Respiratory – Integrated Care role offers an excellent opportunity to advance specialist nursing practice within community services across Mayo and Galway. Working within the Mayo Integrated Care Hub for Chronic Disease Management and Galway Integrated Care Team, this position focuses on delivering high-quality respiratory care, supporting chronic disease management, and enhancing integrated community services.

This Clinical Nurse Specialist Respiratory Mayo opportunity is ideal for an experienced nurse with advanced respiratory expertise and spirometry accreditation who is committed to delivering patient-centred, evidence-based care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist respiratory nursing assessment, intervention and ongoing management for patients with chronic respiratory conditions.
  • Deliver integrated care services across community and primary care settings.
  • Perform and interpret spirometry in line with accredited training standards.
  • Develop individualised care plans in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Support early intervention and prevention strategies in chronic disease management.
  • Provide education and self-management support to patients and families.
  • Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives and service development.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation in accordance with professional standards.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Be registered in the General Division of the Register of Nurses maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
  • Demonstrate depth and breadth of nursing experience in the area of Respiratory Care relevant to the role.
  • Have successfully obtained spirometry accredited training such as the Irish Association of Respiratory Physiologists (IARS) CPD Certificate in Spirometry for Healthcare Professionals or equivalent, or commit in writing to undertake and complete the IARS programme as soon as possible following appointment.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously within community and integrated care settings.
  • Strong communication, clinical leadership and organisational skills.

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

Salary Scale:

€62,078 – €78,443 (LSI applicable)

Salary increments are as follows: €62,078, €63,106, €63,975, €65,394, €66,963, €68,504, €70,045, €71,779, €73,389, €76,159, €78,443 (LSI).

This is a Permanent Whole-Time contract. Standard HSE working hours apply in line with national agreements. Benefits include public sector pension scheme, annual leave entitlement, professional development support and access to integrated care clinical networks.

This role is based within HSE West and North West, covering:

  • 1 Permanent whole-time vacancy in Mayo Integrated Care Hub for Chronic Disease Management, Castlebar, Co. Mayo.
  • 1 Specified purpose whole-time vacancy in Galway Integrated Care Team, Unit 7, Racecourse Business Park, Ballybrit, Galway.

A panel may be formed from this campaign for Clinical Nurse Specialist Respiratory – Integrated Care roles across Community Services Galway, Roscommon and Mayo.

The position forms part of the Health Service Executive’s commitment to strengthening chronic disease management and delivering integrated respiratory care in community settings.
