The Health Service Executive (HSE) is seeking a Consultant in Emergency Medicine for a fixed-term wholetime post based at University Hospital Limerick. This senior clinical role is central to the delivery of high-quality urgent and emergency care within the HSE Mid West region.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and manage the delivery of emergency medicine services within University Hospital Limerick.
• Provide expert clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment to patients presenting with acute and complex conditions.
• Contribute to strategic planning, service development, and quality improvement initiatives across the Urgent & Emergency Care Directorate.
• Supervise, train, and mentor junior medical staff and multidisciplinary colleagues.
• Participate in the on-call rota and ensure continuity of high-quality patient care.
• Work collaboratively with hospital leadership, community partners, and regional management structures.
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland in Emergency Medicine.
• Additional specialist registration in geriatric medicine and general (internal) medicine as specified in the post-specific details.
• Extensive experience delivering emergency clinical services within an acute hospital setting.
• Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Commitment to teaching, governance, and continuous service improvement.

• Grade: Consultant in Emergency Medicine 169T (HSE Consultant salary scale applies).
