Job Overview
University Hospital Galway is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Consultant Physician in Geriatric Medicine to join its specialist medical team on a permanent wholetime basis (37 hours per week). This Consultant Physician Geriatric Medicine Galway role offers the opportunity to lead service innovation, support multidisciplinary collaboration, and enhance outcomes for older patients across the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist consultant-led care in Geriatric Medicine within the acute hospital setting
- Lead and develop integrated care pathways for older patients
- Participate in multidisciplinary team planning and service delivery
- Contribute to strategic service development within the department
- Supervise and mentor NCHDs and junior medical staff
- Engage in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives
- Support teaching, research, and ongoing professional development
- Participate in the on-call rota as required
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Full registration on the Specialist Division of the Medical Council of Ireland (Geriatric Medicine)
- Demonstrated experience in Consultant-level Geriatric Medicine
- Strong leadership and service development capabilities
- Excellent communication and multidisciplinary collaboration skills
- Commitment to clinical excellence and patient-centred care
- Eligibility to work in Ireland
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
Salary will be aligned with the HSE Consultant salary scale and is offered as competitive pay.
This is a permanent wholetime position for 37 hours per week.
