The Health Service Executive (HSE) is inviting applications for a Consultant Surgeon specialising in Gastrointestinal (GI) Surgery and Endoscopy at Wexford General Hospital. This is a fixed-term, whole-time public service position under the Dublin and South East health region. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality surgical care, lead endoscopic services, and contribute to the continued development of surgical excellence in the region.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide consultant-level expertise in GI Surgery and Endoscopy within Wexford General Hospital.
• Lead multidisciplinary surgical and endoscopy teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Deliver elective and emergency surgical services in line with HSE clinical governance standards.
• Participate in the hospital’s on-call consultant rota as required.
• Contribute to clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives, and teaching of junior medical staff.
• Collaborate with other hospital departments and regional surgical services to enhance patient care pathways.
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Registration on the Specialist Division of the Irish Medical Council Register in General Surgery.
• Proven experience in gastrointestinal and endoscopic surgical practice.
• Demonstrated leadership within multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
• Excellent communication and decision-making skills under pressure.
• Access to own vehicle (as per post-specific requirements).
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
• HSE Consultant General Surgeon salary scale (Code 1279), effective 1 August 2025: approximately €234,000 to €280,500 per annum, in line with the Department of Health consolidated salary scales.
• Fixed-term, whole-time contract with pension and public sector benefits.
• Participation in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and research encouraged.
