Job Overview

The Health Service Executive (HSE) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional for the position of Director of Nursing 1, Assistant, Nursing & Midwifery Planning & Development Officer (NMPDU) in Co. Louth. This Director of Nursing Louth opportunity is based within the Office of the Area Director Nursing & Midwifery Planning & Development Unit, Dublin & North East.

This is a senior leadership role focused on workforce planning, service development, and strategic support across Nursing and Midwifery services. A panel may be formed from this campaign to fill current and future permanent or specified purpose vacancies on a full-time or part-time basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Area Director in leading Nursing & Midwifery Planning and Development initiatives.
  • Contribute to strategic workforce planning and service improvement programmes.
  • Provide professional leadership and governance support across services.
  • Collaborate with senior management and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Drive quality improvement and evidence-based practice initiatives.
  • Support implementation of national nursing and midwifery policies.
  • Contribute to reporting, performance monitoring, and service evaluation.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Registered as a Nurse or Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
  • Significant senior clinical and leadership experience in nursing or midwifery.
  • Demonstrated experience in workforce planning or service development.
  • Strong organisational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to lead change and support strategic initiatives.
  • Eligibility to work in Ireland.

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

  • Salary aligned with Director of Nursing 1 – Assistant (Grade Code 2910) in accordance with February 2026 HSE consolidated pay scales.
  • Annual salary scale (effective 1 February 2026): €72,122 – €89,004 (incremental scale).
  • Permanent and Specified Purpose contracts available.
  • Full-time and part-time options.

Location & Employer Information

This role is based at the Mellifont Unit, St Brigid’s Complex, Kells Road, Ardee, Co. Louth, within HSE Dublin & North East.

The position sits within the Office of the Area Director Nursing & Midwifery Planning & Development Unit (NMPDU), supporting regional workforce planning and strategic service development across the health sector.
