Job Overview
The General Manager Operations Galway role offers an exceptional leadership opportunity within the Regional Department of Public Health at Merlin Park Hospital Campus. This permanent whole-time post plays a critical role in operational delivery, governance, and strategic development across the HSE West and North West region.
Reporting at senior level, the successful candidate will drive performance, service excellence, and public health operational efficiency while supporting regional and national health priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide senior operational leadership within the Regional Department of Public Health.
- Lead service planning, performance management, and governance frameworks.
- Manage budgets, financial oversight, and resource allocation.
- Ensure compliance with national HSE policies, procedures, and statutory requirements.
- Support the Regional Director of Public Health in strategic service development.
- Drive quality improvement initiatives and risk management processes.
- Oversee workforce planning, staff performance, and organisational development.
- Contribute to regional and national public health initiatives.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Significant senior management experience within healthcare or public sector environments.
- Demonstrated experience in operational management and service delivery.
- Strong financial management and governance expertise.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strategic planning and change management capability.

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
- Grade: General Manager 0041.
- Contract: Permanent Wholetime.
- Salary: In line with HSE General Manager pay scale (as per national agreements).

Location & Employer Information
This position is based at the Regional Department of Public Health, Top Floor, Finance Building, Merlin Park Hospital Campus, Galway (H91 N973), within HSE West and North West (Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon, Mayo, and Galway).
A panel may be formed from this campaign for current and future permanent or specified purpose vacancies of full or part-time duration within the Regional Department of Public Health.
