The Health Service Executive (HSE) is recruiting a General Manager Operations (Ref: MRHP125319) for Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise. This permanent wholetime leadership role will oversee operational performance, service delivery, and strategic development across the hospital. Based in Portlaoise, Co. Laois, the position offers a key opportunity to support quality, safety, and efficient healthcare management within the HSE Dublin and Midlands region.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and manage operational services across the Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise.
• Oversee service planning, performance targets, and compliance with HSE standards.
• Support delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care across all departments.
• Drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency initiatives.
• Manage resources, staffing, and financial operations within the hospital.
• Collaborate with senior clinical and management teams on strategic developments.
• Ensure effective communication across hospital services and external stakeholders.
• Prepare reports, business cases, and performance updates for senior HSE leadership.
• Support implementation of national and regional health policies and reform programmes.
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Proven senior management experience within healthcare or a large public-sector organisation.
• Strong understanding of HSE structures, governance, and hospital operations.
• Excellent leadership, change-management, and team-building capabilities.
• Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, staffing, and performance frameworks.
• High-level communication, negotiation, and stakeholder-engagement skills.
• Experience overseeing complex operational environments.
• Relevant degree or equivalent qualification (management, healthcare, public administration).
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
