Job Overview
The Grade VII Laboratory ICT Specialist MRH Portlaoise role offers an exciting opportunity to lead and support ICT initiatives within the Pathology Department at Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise. This permanent wholetime position plays a key role in delivering technology-enabled transformation across laboratory services within HSE Dublin and Midlands.
This is an internal competition open only to employees of the HSE, TUSLA, Section 38 agencies, or statutory health agencies in line with WRC Agreement 161867.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support ICT systems within the Laboratory and Pathology Department.
- Deliver ICT services and technology-enabled transformation initiatives in a complex, multi-stakeholder healthcare environment.
- Manage project lifecycles including proposal development, implementation, and transition to operational support.
- Oversee multiple concurrent ICT projects while maximising available resources.
- Collaborate with clinical, administrative, and technical stakeholders across the hospital and health region.
- Ensure ICT solutions align with national HSE standards and healthcare system requirements.
- Support continuous improvement of laboratory information systems and digital processes.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Demonstrated depth and breadth of experience in a Laboratory or Information Technology role relevant to the position.
- Proven experience delivering ICT services or leading technology-enabled change in complex environments.
- Strong project management experience within multi-stakeholder organisations.
- Experience managing multiple projects concurrently.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Irish healthcare system and the challenges of implementing ICT-enabled change.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and leadership skills.

Location & Employer Information
This position is based at Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise, County Laois, within the HSE Dublin and Midlands Health Region. The region covers Longford, Westmeath, Offaly, Laois, Kildare, and parts of Dublin South and Wicklow.
The hospital provides acute healthcare services to the Midlands region and plays a central role in delivering safe, effective, and patient-centred care.
