Job Overview
St. Luke’s General Hospital in Kilkenny is seeking dedicated and compassionate professionals for the role of Health Care Assistant Kilkenny on the Staff Bank. This position offers flexible “if and when” opportunities within an acute hospital setting, supporting patient-centred care across a range of clinical areas.

Key Responsibilities
- • Provide high standards of direct patient care under the supervision of nursing staff
- • Assist patients with personal care needs including hygiene, mobility and nutrition
- • Support clinical staff in maintaining a safe and clean ward environment
- • Observe and report changes in patients’ conditions to the nursing team
- • Assist with transfers and safe movement of patients
- • Maintain accurate documentation as required
- • Adhere to hospital policies, infection control standards and HSE guidelines
Required Skills & Qualifications
- • Demonstrated experience working as a Healthcare Assistant in an acute setting within the last 12 months (essential)
- • Relevant QQI Level 5 qualification in Healthcare Support or equivalent
- • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- • Flexibility and adaptability to work across different departments as required
- • Commitment to delivering patient-focused care
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
The salary scale for this Health Care Assistant Kilkenny role ranges from €36,288 to €45,484 per annum, in line with the approved HSE pay scale, depending on experience and point placement.
This is an “if and when” Staff Bank contract, offering flexible working hours based on service requirements. Successful candidates will gain valuable experience within a leading acute hospital setting and access to public sector employment benefits in accordance with HSE policies.
Location & Employer Information
This position is based at St. Luke’s General Hospital, Kilkenny, part of the HSE Dublin and South East health region, serving communities across Kilkenny and surrounding counties. The hospital provides a wide range of acute medical and surgical services in a modern clinical environment.
As this is a HSE role, employment will be with the Health Service Executive within the Dublin and South East region.
